Today, I’m excited to share a humble update from our school in Thailand, as I document another chapter of my journey in chess and coding. The CMAC Chess Tournament was an inspiring event full of strategy, determination, and unexpected triumphs. On Saturday, May 4th, our talented students competed in the U11 age category, and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone’s effort.
Special congratulations go to Iggy and Antos for their outstanding participation. Representing my team, I had the honor of clinching 1st place in the U11 category. In a remarkable final round, I went head-to-head with a U20 player—and emerged victorious! This victory is not just about winning; it’s a reminder that every move, every decision on the board is a step toward growth.

Chess has been a cornerstone of my life since grade 1, much like my passion for coding. Both chess and coding have sharpened my logical thinking and strategic planning skills. I often find myself on Chess.com almost every day, where I continue to learn the art of foresight and planning. One of the most important lessons my chess teacher always emphasized was, …
“You must know why you make that move, what it’s for, and what your plan is—every single move counts.”
Although moving to the US has meant fewer competitions compared to my days in Thailand, I’ve been trying to join local events around my city to keep the competitive spirit alive. Balancing chess with coding has taught me that the blend of logical reasoning and creative strategy is beneficial in every area of life.

This tournament reminded me that in chess, as in life, every decision matters. The lessons learned on the chessboard—planning your moves, understanding their purpose, and constantly strategizing—also apply to coding and beyond. I’m truly grateful for the guidance from my teachers, the support of my peers, and the opportunities to grow through these experiences.
Note: This diary entry is also posted on my school website at NIS CMAC Chess Tournament (collecting it here before it may be gone someday).
